BUENOS AIRES Stopover and Cruise Departure Point
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina
Sunday 18th March 2012
Boutique Hotel Telmho was ideally located in the heart of the very bohemian District of SAN TELMO in central BUENOS AIRES and
Sunday is the weekly "SAN TELMO Market" day.
It was in full swing when we arrived with its many Artisans showing of their various crafts all along the length of "La Defensa" and in some of the side streets off it too. It was fantastic, totally buzzing, very busy and so, so full of life.
There were clothes and shoe makers, painters and scupltors, accessory and jewellery craftsmen and of course the infamous tango dancers, all being serenaded by a variety of singers and their bands playing right into the night.

The morning "City Tour" was the perfect way to see the highlights of BUENOS AIRES during this short stopover time.
Visiting the very affluent District of PALERMO, the location of embassy row with ambassador residences, large luxury homes and many highrise penthouse apartments as well as a statue to the memory of Eva "Evita" Peron.
Then, after touring around SAN TELMO and travelling down Calle Florida, the traditional shopping area of the city and the Plaza de la Republica, it was to the very heart and centre of BUENOS AIRES.
Plaza de Mayo is the location of monuments, fountains, a museum, shops, restuarants, a church and along one side of it the "Casa Rosada", which the official residence of the President of Argentina.
The weather was sunny and warm and whilst stopping off in the District of LA BOCA, to visit the Stadium of the "BOCA Juniors Football Club" where a legend of Argentine football "MARADONA" once played and to see LA BOCA's very colourful houses, shops and restuarants.
From here the tour ended and after returning to the hotel to collect the luggage, it was under cloudy skies off to Pier 3 at "Puerto Maderno" to join the Holland America Line "MS VEENDAM" cruise ship about to set sail during a thunder and lightning storm across the "RIO DE LA PLATA" for MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay.
