Callao and Lima, Peru

CALLAO (for LIMA) Stopover
Friday 6th April 2012

The Port of CALLAO, Peru is a rather huge and very busy port (handling 75% of the countries imports and 25% of the countries exports) being located about 20 minutes drive from LIMA.

Nowadays CALLAO is just a continuation of LIMA although it is in a separate province from LIMA.

Upon disembarking the MS VEENDAM in the Port of CALLAO, we caught a taxi to LIMA International Airport which was also located in CALLAO, passing through parts of its centre.

LIMA International Airport was a lot more modern that we anticipated and was also very busy as well, especially at around 09h00 in the morning.

There were numerous flights operating between LIMA and CUSCO, our destination today, with a variety of airlines including the TACA Airlines flight TA 009 we were flying on, which departed at 10h25.

We were taken from the Domestic Terminal, Gate 1 to the TACA Airlines EMBRAER E190 aircraft by shuttle bus, as the aircraft was parked at a remote stand.

Some of the interesting aircraft that were seen at LIMA International Airport included a Boeing 737-300 aircraft of Peruvian Airlines and and Airbus A320-200 aircraft of AeroGal.

Welcome onboard the TACA Airlines EMBRAER E190 aircraft prior to take-off from LIMA International Airport.

We therefore did not see much of either CALLAO or LIMA that day during the brief stopover we had there, except for some excellent views that we had shortly after take-off on route to CUSCO, from the air.
