Georgetown, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

CAYMAN ISLANDS Stopover
Including the DOLPHIN EXTREME SWIM AND TURTLE FARM Tour
(which also included a STINGRAY EXPERIENCE)
Tuesday 17th April 2012

The MS VEENDAM anchored very close to the dock this morning in GEORGETOWN on GRAND CAYMAN in the CAYMAN ISLANDS and offered some lovely views from the balcony of our stateroom.

It was therefore necessary for us to take one of the ship's tenders to get ashore and join the DOLPHIN EXTREME SWIM AND TURTLE FARM Tour (which also included a STINGRAY EXPERIENCE) that we had arranged.

For this we had to go from GEORGETOWN, driving passed 7 MILE BEACH to HELL and then back again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from these few photographs taken of the DOLPHINS prior to us meeting the STRINGRAYS in a small pool and then joining the DOLPHINS in the large (main) pool, it was not then possible for us to take any more photographs ourselves.

There was though an official photographer taking photographs of us at this time, as we firstly petted a STINGRAY whilst wading through the small pool with 3 others STINGRAY swimming (almost gliding) around our legs and feet.

We then went to the large (main) pool and met DOLPHIN “ALMA” and her trainer “MIGUEL” and spent approximately 20 minutes with them both enjoying patting, stroking, cuddling and kissing DOLPHIN “ALMA”,

As can initially be seen from there 2 photographs (which are photographs of photographs), more of which will follow shortly, being from a CD will over 100 photographs that were taken of us.

We were then dancing, playing ball, and swimming with DOLPHIN “ALMA” who also pulled us “belly to belly” and pushed us along “by her snout on our feet” also.

From here we crossed the road to the TURTLE FARM and ISLAND WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE, for a lovely visit with the famous TURTLES of the CAYMAN ISLANDS, and some IGUANAS that were there too.

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS first called the CAYMAN ISLAND “LAS TORTUGAS” due to the abundance of these TURTLES around the islands, upon their discovery in 1503.

Before returning to GEORGETOWN to do some shopping prior to us returning to the MS VEENDAM in the mid afternoon.
