Crossing the Equator at Sea

KING NEPTUNE CEREMONY
Crossing The Equator at Sea
Thursday 12th April 2012

As the MS VEENDAM crossed the EQUATOR today we celebrated this event by holding the traditional KING NEPTUNE CEREMONY with KING NEPTUNE being the Father of the Sea.

The EQUATOR is an imaginary reference line that encircles the earth and divides our planet into the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. It is the widest of the latitude rings that ring the earth.

During the KING NEPTUNE CEREMONY, various crew members were "rounded up" and put into a "holding pen" and then charged with various "crimes" that they had committed.

They were then "tried" in front of KING NEPTUNE and his QUEEN, doused in a colourful mixture of "meringue" and then it was determined the Captain and the Chief Officers of the shipif they would "live" (by staying on the side of) or "die" (by jumping into) the swimming pool.

It was also formal evening once again this evening on board the MS VEENDAM to celebrate in style the crossing of the EQUATOR at sea.
